Uniform Requirements
Competitors in the Traditional Kata event are to be dressed in full traditional gi. See acceptable uniforms here
Time Limit
Competition is a single match of two (2) minute duration.
Scoring
Competitors will be scored by 3 judges including a head judge. 1 timekeeper and 1 scorekeeper are also needed for the match.
After each point scored, the match is paused and both opponents are called to return to their side of the ring. In order for scoring points to be awarded, at least 2 of the 3 ring judges must acknowledge the point. The same majority applies to the calling of a foul.
Event Fouls – Boundary Infractions, Face Contact unless match is between Brown belts or above (reddening rule applies). Kicking an opponent who is on the ground.
Point Awards:
3 Points awarded for jump kicks or spinning kicks landing within the legal strike areas
2 Points awarded for a kick to the head area or to the body resulting in the movement of the opponent’s body.
1 Point awarded for any successfully executed and connecting hand technique
1 Point awarded to opponent for any foul committed after the second warning
[Tiebreaker] Ties will be determined by sudden death. The first competitor to score will be the winner. There will be no time limit.
Winner Determination
If one competitor has seven (7) more points than their opponent before the end of the (2) minutes match, he/she will be declared winner of the match. If neither competitor has reached the seven (7) point spread before the time has run out, the competitor who scores the greater number of points will be the winner, unless he/she gets disqualified.
