The QBU has four different event types: Performance, Combat, Traditional, and Contemporary! We separate the different divisions in order to ensure that the QBU caters to every student's interests in some way! It also lets us highlight the different aspects of our martial arts training. Some events may be a requirement to compete in before you're able to sign up for others.

Traditional

Traditional events are the heart of every martial arts tournament—where discipline, precision, and spirit are put on full display. From powerful forms and weapons demonstrations to controlled sparring and self-defense showcases, competitors step onto the mat not only to test their skill, but to honor the traditions and values of martial arts through focus, respect, and determination.

Contemporary

Contemporary martial arts events bring speed, creativity, and athleticism to the tournament floor. These divisions showcase modern performance skills through high-energy forms, dynamic combinations, acrobatics, and explosive techniques that push competitors to display both precision and innovation.

Performance

Performance events are where martial arts meets showmanship, allowing competitors to demonstrate creativity, timing, and stage presence through exciting choreographed routines. Combining technique, power, music, and expression, these events challenge athletes to deliver unforgettable performances that entertain the audience while showcasing discipline, coordination, and martial arts skill at the highest level.

Combat

Combat events place competitors head-to-head in the ultimate test of timing, strategy, and controlled intensity. Through sparring, grappling, and tactical exchanges, martial artists must demonstrate courage, discipline, and composure under pressure while applying their training in real-time competition.

FEDs

FEDs, or Fun Educational Drills, bring energy, teamwork, and excitement to the tournament experience while helping competitors sharpen important martial arts skills in a creative way. Designed to challenge coordination, focus, speed, and problem-solving, these interactive activities allow students of all ages to learn, compete, and grow in a positive environment that emphasizes both fun and development.

Weapons

Weapons events showcase the precision, discipline, and control required to master traditional martial arts weaponry. From dynamic strikes and spinning techniques to powerful demonstrations of timing and coordination, competitors display both technical skill and confidence as they bring speed, focus, and artistry to every performance. These events honor the rich traditions of martial arts while highlighting the dedication needed to safely and skillfully wield a weapon.
