The competitive event of Ball Defense allows competitors to demonstrate their ability to use ground techniques and capability to obtain and maintain control of a 16 lb medicine ball.
Each competitor is assigned the role of offense or defense which defines their objective during the match.
The objective of the offense player is to get the ball completely outside the boundary of the ring.
The objective of the defensive player is to prevent the ball from going outside the ring for the 1 minute duration of the round.
Competitors are permitted to use a variety of ground mobility and manipulation positions and techniques, but are not permitted to apply intentional submissions.
